Below is a list of every owner known since the pub became the White Hart, 170 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>1841-1847<br \/>\n<strong>Mr David McBurnie<\/strong><br \/>\nHe was the first to give the hotel the White Hart name and he held the licence for 6 years.<\/p>\n<p>1849-1856<br \/>\n<strong>Mr Joseph Bowman<\/strong><br \/>\nHe held the licence for 5 years and the 1851 census shows he lived here with his wife and two sons.<\/p>\n<p>1857-1892<br \/>\n<strong>Lost Records<\/strong><br \/>\nAll court licence records have been lost and all surviving duplicate licences for these periods have been checked.<\/p>\n<p>Census 1861<br \/>\n<strong>Catherine Lynn (34)<\/strong><br \/>\nThe 1861 Census shows that she lived here with her 3 sons and 1 daughter. Her son William (8) worked as a labourer.<\/p>\n<p>Census 1871<br \/>\n<strong>Mr Richard Kirk<\/strong><br \/>\nThe 1871 census shows that he lived here at the hotel with his wife and his 2 sons, along with 2 maids.<\/p>\n<p>Census 1881<br \/>\n<strong>Mr James Laidlaw<\/strong><br \/>\nThe 1881 census shows that he lived here with his wife, 3 sons and 2 daughters. Also recorded living there was a maid.<\/p>\n<p>1892-1919<br \/>\n<strong>Mrs Margaret Harris<\/strong><br \/>\nThe record shows a conviction in 1909 that resulted in a fine and several days in prison. Unfortunately, no court record survived to say what the conviction was for. Harassing a maid, possibly?<\/p>\n<p>1920-1926<strong><br \/>\nMrs Mary Murphy<\/strong><br \/>\nHeld the licence for 5 years.<\/p>\n<p>1927-1930<br \/>\n<strong>Mr John Raffel<\/strong><br \/>\nHe held the licence for a short period before dropping dead at his pumps, and his ghost still occasionally walks here!!<\/p>\n<p>1931-1943<br \/>\n<strong>Mr Peter Smith<\/strong><br \/>\nManaged to keep the hotel running during most of the war years, in spite of the shortening of opening hours and rationing.<\/p>\n<p>1944-1946<br \/>\n<strong>Mr David Anderson<\/strong><br \/>\nAll records other than licence records have been lost relating to this owner.<\/p>\n<p>1947-1954<br \/>\n<strong>Mr Robert Peters<\/strong><br \/>\nIn 1950 Mr Peters was ordered to carry out repairs to the building or lose his licence.<\/p>\n<p>1955-1967<br \/>\n<strong>Vaux Breweries Ltd<\/strong><br \/>\nCarried out major improvements including a new first floor dining room.<\/p>\n<p>1967-1968<br \/>\n<strong>Mr Colin James Campbell<\/strong><br \/>\nWas only here for less than a year when he saw the ghost and left soon after.<\/p>\n<p>1968-1974<br \/>\n<strong>Flt Lt Mervyn McCord RAF VR<\/strong><br \/>\nIn 1973 he was granted a licence for one amusement machine with prizes.<\/p>\n<p>1974-1975<br \/>\n<strong>Mr James O&#8217;Hare<\/strong><br \/>\nThe only information is that he was a sales rep from Ayrshire.<\/p>\n<p>1975-1979<br \/>\n<strong>Joseph Johnstone<\/strong><br \/>\nRetired in 1979 after a short ownership.<\/p>\n<p>1979-1988<br \/>\n<strong>Gaetlano Campanile<\/strong><br \/>\nLived in the premises.<\/p>\n<p>1998-1989<br \/>\n<strong>Mr Frank Gilfedder<\/strong><br \/>\nSurvived the White Hart for less than a year.<\/p>\n<p>1989-1997<br \/>\n<strong>Mr Robert W. Little<\/strong><br \/>\nRetired 1997, and so the White Hart was kept in the family for the first time by selling ownership to their eldest daughter, Susan.<\/p>\n<p>1997-present<br \/>\n<strong>Mrs Susan McMillan<\/strong><br \/>\nThe still-present owner of The White Hart Hotel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Great beer and a great atmosphere since 1841.
